Does size really matter? Yes IT DOES! Size Matters in all different aspects of our lives from the size of our feet to the size of our dreams. However size also matters big time in Interior design. Below I will show you three different examples of how this hold its truth.
INTERIOR DESIGN: SIZE MATTERS EXAMPLE #1
The size of our indoor lighting matters. Choosing the right size chandelier can be tricky. A chandelier too small can get lost in a room and not give enough light. A chandelier too big can overwhelm the space. So how do you select the right size chandelier? Follow this simple trick:
WIDTH (of room) + LENGTH (of room) = TOTAL FEET. Treat the feet as inches and you have the diameter of your chandelier give or take a few inches. EX: 10'W + 15'L= 25' ---> convert 25' to 25". The diameter of you chandelier should be about 25" (give or take a few inches).
INTERIOR DESIGN: SIZE MATTERS EXAMPLE #2
Mirrors can make or break a room or a piece. We have all heard that design tip: mirrors make a room look bigger. However using a mirror on the wall that looks too small can actually take away from the grandeur of the space. Take a look at these two examples below.
INTERIOR DESIGN: SIZE MATTERS EXAMPLE #3
Selecting the right size rug can be daunting. There are so many sizes to choose from! I have three simple tricks to help you select the perfect one.
1.) If your living room is large and your furniture is floating in the middle of the space select a rug that will let your furniture sit completely on top of it.
2.) If your furniture is along the wall and the space is average size , select a rug that will fit the front two legs of all your furniture.
3.) If your living room is really cute and small you can have a rug just under the coffee table so your living room doesn't feel cramped up and overwhelmed by the rug.
So there you have it! As you have witnessed for yourself with these 3 examples SIZE DOES MATTER when it comes to decorating your home. Take these 3 simple decor rules and implement them in your home. I promise it will make a world of difference.
